BPIF calls to scrap fuel duty hike

The British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) has urged the Government to scrap a planned increase in fuel duty as well as make finance more accessible to help businesses grow.

The federation voiced its concerns while responding to HM Treasury's invitation to businesses and trade bodies for suggestions for this year's Budget, due to be held on March 23.

Andy Brown, director of corporate affairs at BPIF, also called on the government to look into the Insolvency Service's consultation on pre-packs.

Mr Brown said: "The number of reported pre-packs is down a bit but the underlying problem with the legislation is still there and it would be terribly disappointing after all the effort from our industry in terms of the consultation, if nothing came of it after we got so close.

"Governments are reactive and the lack of many high-profile pre-packs, such as those in the retail sector in 2009, may have made them think it's less important, but from our point of view, the resurrection of failed businesses is a major impediment to growth in manufacturing."
