Hewlett Packard has announced a new deal with ARM Holdings under which computer servers based on ARM's low-energy processors are to be developed.
The ARM-based Energycore server-on-a-chip, to be built by Calxeda, will consume just 1.5 watts of power.
ARM said the new processor uses less than one tenth the power of most energy-efficient server processors used currently.
The new server will help reduce space requirements as a number of chips can be packed into one enclosure.
ARM hopes that its latest project with HP will help it offer tough competition to Intel's X86-based processors.
