HP expands ColorLok paper standard

Print giant Hewlett-Packard (HP) has expanded its ColorLok paper standard program for office laser printers, after a study showed that the paper helps laser printers run longer.

An independent study conducted by third-party Buyers Laboratory (BLI) for HP found that ColorLok paper maximises the life of laser printers, allowing them to run nine times longer compared to with paper that does not meet the specification.

The study said that HP's proprietary paper helped protect important laser engine parts by keeping them clean on the inside, leading to four times fewer faults, and avoiding paper path obstructions that require user intervention.

HP has also released a white paper titled Laser Printer Performance and Reliability Degrades When Using Low-Quality Cutsheet Papers, detailing the effects of low-quality paper on printing quality and on businesses.
