Newly appointed Gregg Melinson will take on the responsibility of being Hewlett-Packard's vice president of global government affairs and deputy general counsel on September 19.
The firm said Mr Melinson is expected to work out of HP's Palo Alto, Calif. headquarters and will report to Michael Holston, HP's executive vice president and general counsel.
For much of the last two decades, Mr Melinson has been a partner at the law firm Drinker Biddle & Reath. From 1995 to 1997, he served as deputy general counsel to then-Gov. Tom Ridge (R-Pa.).
In a statement Mr Holston said: "Gregg is an excellent leader with deep government affairs expertise, strong business acumen and a proven track record of building successful teams."
Mr Melinson succeeds Larry Irving, who left HP in June, as the company's head of government affairs.
