HP launches new improved notebooks

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has launched a new range of notebook personal computers adopting the processors from Advanced Micro Devices (AMDs).

The world's largest PC maker confirmed it has made changes to its Envy, Pavilion and Mini netbook consumer lines as well as ProBook enterprise PCs.

The new notebooks add to its high-end Envy range and sport slot-load optical drives and back-lit keyboards.

Meanwhile, a number of the new Pavilion laptops include optional AMD chips. HP also said that it has redesigned this entire line-up.

With the help of AMD processors, the company has been able to offer more options and lower prices to its customers.

The new improved devices have been expected to hit stores later in May and June.

In terms of design, HP computers feature etched metal finishes and "touchable" textures, while customers can also pick customised wallpaper from 12 artists.

Stacy Wolff, director of notebook product design at HP, said: "We took this opportunity to rethink and re-evaluate what we're doing in the design space."

Research by industry tracker IDC has revealed that HP covers nearly 20% of the world's PC market, while it shipped over 15 million PCs in the first three months of the year.
