HP 'market leader in data centres'

HP has claimed market leadership when it comes to data centres and server racks.

Bethany Mayer, who heads the company's networking arm, said that HP has plans to integrate switching technology with its data centre strength, a move that is likely to catapult the hardware giant into a domineering position.

"HP has a benchhead as strong as Cisco's and I think even stronger," she said.

With its variety and depth of products, the company hopes to fight and dominate Cisco switches in the market.

Another HP official Saar Gillai said: "The richness of the feature set and the density will be very, very interesting."

Recent figures have shown that HP was leading the global server market in the second quarter of the current year, bagging $3.9 billion (£2.39 billion) in server revenue.
