HP has teamed up with French paper group Arjowiggins Graphic for a proposed project to look into de-inking of inkjet and Indigo prints.
The two firms are currently in the early stages of discussions, but hope to launch a three-month pilot by the end of 2011.
It will look at ways for large-scale de-inking of paper printed with HP's Indigo liquid toner and that using inkjets.
Arjowiggins will make its state-of-the-art Greenfield paper recycling mill in France available for the trials.
HP senior scientists Nils Miller said they have not chalked out details of the trials yet, but are hoping to get successful results from the pilot in time for the print media trade fair, Drupa, next year.
John Cooper, customer support director at Arjowiggins Graphics, said: "We want to open up Greenfield, use our expertise and know how to offer input from a practical point of view."
"We have to do the work on an industrial scale to resolve this and I have a vision to set up Greenfield as a centre of excellence for de-inking digital print."
