HP's plans for WebOS announced

Hewlett-Packard, which is aiming to buy Palm for $1.2 billion (£841 million), has announced plans for the mobile operating system called Palm webOS.

Company chief executive Mark Hurd said that webOS will be used in a range of its products, including slates and web-connected printers.

HP's Todd Bradley further said the company is planning to "invest heavily" in the touch-screen mobile operating system - incorporating it in slate PCs, Netbooks, and phones.

Printers are the most important part of HP's business. It has been revealed that the company's imaging and printing division helped it earn a total of $6.4 billion (£4.48 billion) in the most recent quarter.

So, it is likely the firm will make use of the mobile operating system in its printing devices.

According to Mr Hurd, the proposed takeover would enable HP to improve its intellectual property in the connected-mobility space.
