HP to offer new cloud-based service

Hewlett-Packard (HP) is planning to launch its own cloud-based music and movie service.

The upcoming HP TouchPad tablet computer is likely to be equipped with the new feature, which will enable users to store and access content in the cloud.

According to a PowerPoint presentation sent to customers who registered their interest in the business version of the tablet PC, the new device will include a music syncing solution that uses cloud servers to sync and remotely store music.

In addition, the music the user is most likely to listen to can be stashed locally on the device.

Consumers could be given streaming access to new music, while streaming to smartphones like the Pre and Veer will also be allowed.

However, the company has not revealed details regarding the video service.

The new cloud-based feature could strengthen HP's position in the increasingly growing tablet market, which already includes big brands such as Apple and Samsung.

It is also seen as a strong contender to Amazon Cloud Drive, which is described as a hard-drive in the cloud.
