HP to open new research facility

HP is planning to launch a new research facility in Colorado, US, which will focus on sustainable data centre technologies.

The Fort Collins research facility will explore strategies to help reduce the environmental impact of next-generation data centres by eradicating IT sprawl, boosting energy efficiency and cutting down power consumption.

Built in collaboration with HP Labs, the company's central research facility, the new site is 50,000 sq.ft.

The centre will expand on HP's Converged Infrastructure architecture and re-invest cost savings into business innovation.

The facility will also support the company's Data Centre Smart Grid initiative. HP said that it will also work on resource management by cooling microgrids.

HP sustainable ecosystems research lab principal research scientist Tom Christian said their clients are are looking for cheaper and sustainable data centre technologies that will help in reducing emissions and energy costs.

Christan said:"The new Fort Collins research facility advances the development of offerings that address CIOs' most pressing needs, including lowered energy consumption and reduced costs."
