HP to supply IT products for COP16

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has won a contract to supply IT products for this year's United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP16).

The event is scheduled to take place between November 29 and December 10 in Cancun, Mexico.

Under the agreement with the Mexican government, the company will provide technology products worth more than $8 million (£4.9 million).

The products will include notebooks, desktop PCs, printers and consumables, together with data centre and networking tools.

HP has won the contract in recognition of its commitment to environmental efforts.

According to the company, by avoiding car and air travel through the use of its visual collaboration solutions, an estimated net emissions reduction of 226 metric tons of CO2 per solution can be achieved each year.

Julio Camarena, undersecretary for management of the ministry of foreign affairs of Mexico, said: "HP's innovative low-carbon solutions are a key factor in helping us to minimise the carbon footprint of COP16. These technologies will enable participation from stakeholders around the globe and optimize the use of public resources."
