HP tops Greener Electronics table

HP has been awarded the top ranking in the latest edition of the Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics, overtaking Nokia, it has emerged.

The firm took the lead with 5.6 points out of 10 in the 17th edition of the guide, which rated 15 gadget and electronics companies on energy, greener products and sustainable operations.

HP is in the top position as it scored strongly for sustainable operations.

Nokia, which had held the top spot for the past three years, slipped to third place after failing to score well in the energy criteria.

Greenpeace International campaigner Tom Dowdall said: "After many of the world's leading electronics companies rose to the challenge of phasing out the worst hazardous substances, we are now challenging them to improve their sourcing of minerals and better managing the energy use throughout the supply chain."
