Inkjet reduces carbon footprint

Australia-based Griffin Press, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PMP Limited, is installing an HP T350 inkjet web press in Adelaide, after a worldwide study showed its potential to reduce the carbon footprint of digital book publishing by over 20%.

The study, which analysed printers in Canada, found an over 20% reduction in wastage and warehousing on using T300 inkjet press for on-demand digital book printing.

HP said on-demand printing to specific run sizes could lead to a near-30% drop in wasted books that are printed but not used.

Warren Griffin, national sales manager of Griffin Press, said the study revealed how carbon footprint can be reduced by using inkjet printing.

Mr Griffin said: "For us, helping the publishers reduce wastage and warehousing is a top priority.

"We have also made a big effort over the past two years to calculate our manufacturing footprint, and the T350 will is definitely part of our long-term strategy in carbon reductions."
