Kodak to use eco-friendly packaging

Kodak products such as CDs, DVDs, and VHS, will be sold with less packaging after the company's worldwide distributor, KMG Digital announced new environmentally friendly methods of packaging.

KMG said the new eco-friendly optical media packaging will cut down on plastic components and consumer waste stream by 98%.

As part of the new green initiative, Kodak products will be packaged in paper and 100%-recyclable storage containers that do not include PP or PS plastics.

And in a further environmentally friendly move, KMG said Kodak CDs and DVDs will use soy-based inks for package printing.

Mike Golacinski, KMG digital president and CEO, said while its competitors had tried to reduce the amount of plastic used in packaging, they had not gone as far as KMG.

He said: "We've found a way to bring environmentally sustainable packaging to the category in a cost-efficient manner."

Brad Yeager, director of marketing at the company, added: "Paper and cardboard are the most efficient materials to recycle. Plastics are one of the least efficient due to sorting, overseas transportation, and re-melting. KMG Digital wants to do our part to decrease waste."
