Marketing group adds HP system

Printing and marketing communication group Communisis has added a Hewlett Packard high-speed colour digital printing system to its Leeds plant as it bids to take advantage of new opportunities in the market.

The Leeds-based group, which revealed that trading during the first quarter of the year had hit forecasts - say the system will allow them to supply clients with full-colour products personalised for each individual.

Communisis, which saw Andy Blundell step up from the role of sales director to replace departing chief executive Steve Vaughan at the end of 2009, said that changes to its direct mail business have already begun.

Older printing equipment will be removed from the Leeds factory, which will lead to restructuring costs but should create future benefits.

In a interim management statement covering the three months to March 31, the company said: "This unique technology is changing the landscape in the direct mail market by enabling our customers to access personalised full-colour messaging at unparalleled output speeds."
