New tool to cut office energy use

Fuji Xerox and Fujitsu have come up with a new software solution, with the help of which firms will be able to cut the amount of energy used by office devices by 30%.

All computers, printers and multifunction devices in the office building can be connected to an office network using the tool, which combines Fuji Xerox's ApeosWare Management Suite of applications and Fujitsu's Systemwalker Desktop Patrol operational management software.

The tool provides companies with a high-level view of the power consumed by the devices, while it also facilitates micro-level control over individual gadgets.

Currently launched only in Japan, it is the first system that allows businesses to centrally control energy consumption by individual computers and printing devices.
