Print at 'manufacturing summit'

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Business Secretary Vince Cable are among the Government officials who will have an opportunity to hear the views of printing firms at a summit next week.

The Advanced Manufacturing Growth Summit, held by the department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), will also see BPIF president Rupert Middleton, Unite assistant general secretary Tony Burke and Proskills chief executive Terry Watts attend the January 25 event.

The day will see 100 guests listen to the Government's policy proposals for the manufacturing industry before the budget for this year is mapped out.

The event, which was launched by the BIS last week, will also hail the print industry for its "innovation".

Mr Middleton said: "We want to ensure that print has a seat at the table. I am not sure that the industry is well enough recognised for its innovation and there is a perception of the industry that we need to break down."
