Print leaders urged to back TPC

The Printing Charity has launched its new identity, vowing to achieve a four-fold increase in the number of people it helps.

The TPC, formerly Printers' Charitable Corporation, unveiled its aim at a Downing Street reception attended by representatives from the industry and allied firms like publishers, equipment suppliers and education providers.

President of the charity Michael Johnson appealed for print businesses to get in touch and do more to back its work.

He said although the charity's assets generate income, it still needs corporate donors, as it was pledged only £6,000 in 2009.

"Why should printers link with us? Because it is your charity," he told the reception at 11 Downing Street.

"We have a change of name but not a change of nature and we will continue to reach out to those less fortunate than ourselves by providing a safety net for vulnerable people and their families."

Over the next 10 years the TPC intends to quadruple the number of people it helps, from more than 500 to 2,000.
