Q3 printer shipments rise by 11.1%

Printer sales across Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Central Asia saw a year-on-year rise of 11.1% in the third quarter, new figures have shown.

According to market research firm Context, the figure represents a growth trend in shipments this year, as a continuing improvement on second quarter's 6.2% rise in sales.

The growth was led by a 32.7% year-on-year rise in sales of copier-based multi-function printers (MFP) in the quarter, as businesses looked for options with lower printing costs.

All-in-one (AIO) laser printer shipments surged annually by 26.8% in the quarter as prices fell, while AIO inkjet printer shipments rose by 4% over the same period.

Unit sales grew year-on-year by 6.5% in the Western European markets in the third quarter compared to the Q2 figure of 5.9%.

HP led sales in the third quarter, contributing to a 15.6% share of total unit shipments across all EMEA and Central Asia regions, up from 12.6% in the previous quarter.
