Residents meet waste paper goal

A housing association in Staffordshire has praised the efforts of its eco-loving residents for recycling used toner cartridges, clothing, mobile phones and enough paper to save 73 trees.

Recycling residents in Lichfield sent 192 bags of shredded confidential and general paper waste for recycling last year, cutting the number of reams of paper used from 2,079 to 1,645 - a 26% reduction.

Home office paper supplies were just one of the recycling targets on Homezone residents' lists, joining unwanted spectacles, used bras and second-hand clothing, some of which were sent to developing nations.

Julie Walker, director of housing at Homezone Living, the housing association which led the scheme, said: "Homezone Living is determined to do its bit for the green agenda. For the past couple of years we have made great strides in recycling a range of items from paper and computer toners through to specs and bras."

The Homezone recycling scheme was set up to draw attention to how much progress can be made simply by reusing commonplace items around the home and office.
