Slate goes head to head with iPad

Hewlett-Packard has designed its new Slate tablet to support Adobe Flash content, taking a swipe at Apple's iPad which lacks that function.

Two videos have been published to ram home the fact that the Apple device does not use Flash - a platform on which a large proportion of content on the internet is based.

Apple boss Steve Jobs said the reason for the omission is that the Adobe software is vulnerable to hackers and tends to be slow.

HP is marketing its Slate on the iPad's inabilities. One of its videos highlights what the Slate can do using Flash, such as play videos and online games, as well as look show pictures.

One HP promotional video lasts 30 seconds and echoes the Apple video advert shown during the Oscars. The other video lasts five minutes and features Alan Tam from the Adobe company explaining more about the Flash support in the Slate.

HP's device runs on Microsoft Windows 7 OS.
