Toshiba has joined forces with Hewlett-Packard (HP) to successfully implement a smart community vision and work on new business opportunities worldwide.
Under the new smart community scheme, both the firms will focus on areas such as cloud computing, networking and infrastructure.
The computer technology firms are mainly concentrating on cloud computing, due to the growing popularity of the platform and its potential benefits.
The technology facilitates synergistic collaboration between IT systems and services, while it also contributes to energy conservation and provides other advantages.
Brian Cohen, vice president of Enterprise Sales Strategy and Global Accounts at HP, said: "Powerful demographic changes are forcing organisations to find smarter ways to manage and deliver critical resources and services such as energy, healthcare, education and transportation.
"HP has developed and is researching technologies designed to fundamentally transform today's infrastructures to deliver secure, seamless, context-aware experiences for consumers, communities and businesses. Our collaboration with Toshiba is intended to support our growth in delivering these solutions."
