Xerox and HP bolster MPS divisions

Managed print services (MPS) of both Xerox and HP are expected to be strengthened through new acquisitions made by the firms.

Xerox has bought UK-based print consultancy and software group NewField IT, while HP has agreed a deal for MPS specialist Printelligent.

NewField IT, which is based in Twickenham, provides services and software tools to help customers with faster and more efficient implementation of MPS services.

It will retain its brand and operational headquarters, including the US base in Philadelphia, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Xerox.

The company's co-founder Robert Newry said: "As an independent unit, we can take advantage of Xerox's global presence and respected innovation in the MPS space to scale our business and technology."

Meanwhile, HP hopes its acquisition of Printelligent's assets, including software, infrastructure, skilled staff and client base, will give an additional advantage to its MPS offerings.

Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president of HP's imaging and printing group, said: "As a market leader in managed print services, this acquisition puts us even further ahead by strengthening our ability to deliver services and solutions through our channel partners to SMB customers."
