How pretty is a picture? That surely depends on who is doing the looking, one might reply.
But one technology firm is building a tool which is apparently able to objectively gauge the beauty (or otherwise) of images.
Xerox said an algorithm is being developed to provide a function which can judge a photograph's aesthetic quality.
The tool is still being worked on but people can check out its development on the Open Xerox website.
The firm said its designers are faced with the "difficult task of trying to learn automatically what makes an image special, and makes photo enthusiasts as high quality".
Feedback is sought, so if you have strong opinions on the matter you should visit Open Xerox and have your say.
