Xerox unveils solid ink printers
Print solutions specialist Xerox has announced the release of two solid ink colour printers - the ColorQube 8870 and the ColorQube 8570.
The ColorQube 8570 is priced at $699 (£444) and is aimed at small businesses that need to make an impact with high-quality colour.
Meanwhile the ColorQube 8870 - priced at $2,499 (£1,587) - should reduce colour page costs, as customers who print high volumes only pay for the amount of colour they use on a specific page.
A solid ink printer or multifunction printer uses solid sticks (or blocks) of no-mess, non-toxic ink rather than toner or inkjet cartridges.
These feature Color by Words, a colour-editing tool, as well as Adobe Postscript3 and PANTONE colour-approved simulations.
Both printers also boast green benefits, such as Earth Smart print driver defaults for two-sided printing, proof print, recycled paper and draft mode - an Intelligent Ready feature that learns usage patterns and switches to low-power mode when the printer is least likely to be in use.
GreenPrint software that automatically highlights unnecessary pages such as those with only banner ads or logos before printing also comes as standard.
